Is restaurant work a good way of getting into the industry?

Would all the sir/madam stuff drive you crazy?

Hi Cork,

We definitely think that working in a restaurant is a great way to get into the tourism industry! Attitude is what opens doors in the restaurant industry. Some restaurants do look for previous experience, but others do prefer to hire people who are brand new to the industry. What restaurant managers look for is people who love people, have a great smile, are friendly, can banter and make a connection with customers.

Get the low-down from James, a restaurant manager:

If you do decide to apply for a restaurant job, here are a couple of good tips:
- First, the food service industry has busy peak times around meal hours, so don't show up when they have a full house and expect attention.

- Dress for success. Remember that foodservice operations are in the hospitality business and grooming is important.

I might give it a go.

Is it tough working on your feet all day?
